I tried to steal this appealing phrase from the New Pornographers' song "Ballad of a Comeback Kid." Unfortunately I got it wrong, it's really "the scions of history." But I keep on hearing it wrong, so "sighthounds" it is.

I hear it the same way. I even did a search for that phrase and found this site. Of course, I have a greyhound, so I'm biased that way.
I think Sighthounds is better!
